Storm Solvers

How can we know which storms will disrupt our lives?

In this unit, students take on the role of meteorologists as they seek to answer the driving question: How can we know which storms will disrupt our lives? Their challenge is to determine whether a specific storm will be mild or severe and recommend whether to close down public institutions to protect lives and property. Investigations and models help students learn how to explain the causes of different storms and  understand tools meteorologists use to forecast storms. Throughout the unit, groups learn how to use green screen technology to deliver their final video presentations.

Unit length: 4 weeks (20 hours)
