What Goes Up…Must Get Green (Math)

How can we design a more Earth-friendly airline?

Students learn about the airline industry’s challenge to grow in a sustainable way. The project centers on Sea-Tac airport, which is growing tremendously and impacting nearby communities, in terms of air and noise pollution and regional traffic/mobility. Students consider several factors as they make calculations to determine how to design a sustainable airline.

Key content: mathematics, environmental sustainability, air and noise pollution, design thinking

Unit length: 3-4 Weeks
