Bird Strike! (Biology)

How can we keep the skies safe for passengers, planes, and the birds?

Students learn about challenges faced by the Sea-Tac Airport Wildlife Management Team as they work to keep raptors, owls, and other birds out of the airspace in order to prevent catastrophic crashes and damage to airplanes. Students apply their expertise to design a Wildlife Hazard Management Plan for an airport’s bird strike problem.

Key content: biology, ecology, systems thinking, perspective-taking (community, ecosystem, economics), design thinking
