Exploring the Diversity of Life

What do fossils and DNA evidence reveal about biodiversity and the evolution of species?

Students work in groups to produce and present a conference-style scientific poster that explains their hypothesis regarding how many species of orca exist in the world. Students use many lines of evidence create a “whale family tree” to illustrate the evolutionary history of this group of whales.

Key content: evolution, biodiversity, natural selection, adaptation, models of relatedness
