Climate Engineers
How can engineering help us mitigate the impacts of climate change?
With youth activists like Greta Thunberg leading calls for urgent action on climate change, public interest is turning once again to geoengineering. In this unit, students develop their expertise on climate science and engineering to answer the question: How can engineering help us mitigate the impacts of climate change? Students investigate approaches that could repair the damaged climate or reduce hazards of unavoidable climate changes. Action groups each research the causes and effects of climate change in a specific global location, then design a sustainable engineering solution and present it to an authentic audience for evaluation.
Unit length: 5 weeks (25 hours)
