The People’s Park (Social Studies)

How do we create a park that has a positive impact on the public?

Students create a park design for a Superfund site that the Port is restoring into a public green space. Students take on roles either as park designers or Port Commissioners. Student Port Commissioners hold a mock Commissioner meeting to review the park design proposals and decide how to best create a park that positively impacts the public.

Key content: perspective taking, environmental issues, community needs, industry and business, Native American tribal concerns

Unit length: 3-4 Weeks
