Slime Invasion!
How can we stop a killer slime invasion?
Students investigate the phenomenon of a slime invasion in Lake Erie to figure out why algae has taken over the lake and is killing fish. Groups investigate bodies of water in their area as they research and collaborate with each other to answer the question: How can we stop a killer slime invasion? Students learn about cells and their role in living organisms and create a slime invasion of their own to explain what caused the algae to grow out of control. They then write and present an Algae Action Plan to reduce the risk of slime invasions in their own community.
Unit length: 7 weeks (35 hours)
